I’m An Empath and It Sucks

If you know, you know, but for those out there who don’t… An empath is a person who absorbs and experiences the emotions and sometimes physical symptoms of other people. Empaths read body language at an expert level, often knowing that something is really great or subtly wrong even before the one experiencing it. Empaths,  I see you and the hurdles you face. I have some tips to help get you through the summer.

First, we have to cut out those energy vampires. Energy vampires are the people who suck the energy right out of you and that is toxic. If you can, just leave them in their dust. If you can’t rid them from your life, then set strong boundaries with the following questions in mind:

What am I willing to put up with and what crosses the limit?

Who do I need to set boundaries with the most?

What am I comfortable saying yes to and what do I want to say no to?

Second, Communicate you empath needs. Work out what exhaust you and what energizes you. Are you in touch with your emotions and able to identify triggers? Once you’ve reflected on what your unique empath needs are, you then need to convey them to your loved ones honestly and without holding back. Even with the best intentions in the world, your partner, parent, or friend may simply not understand what you’re going through. By being upfront with them you will help create healthier relationships.

Third, try mediation. Meditation isn’t only useful for reducing stress. Other benefits include reducing anxiety, enhancing self-awareness, improving emotional health, increasing concentration, and sleeping better. There are many resource on YouTube and books.

Empaths, you are worthy of rest and you’ve got this!

“Suppression of our natural responses to disaster is part of the disease of our time. The refusal to acknowledge these responses causes a dangerous splitting. It divorces our mental calculations from our intuitive, emotional, and biological embeddedness in the matrix of life.” – Robin Wall Kimmerer
